The Greater Binghamton Airport

The Greater Binghamton Airport offers many modern amenities including a roomy departure lounge, a business conference center, an Internet-accessible resource room, efficient ticketing and baggage claim area, and a comfortable restaurant. Most recently, the airport has installed four new passenger boarding bridges that will allow simultaneous boarding service from each of the airlines offering service at BGM. These fully enclosed bridges will allow passengers to board aircraft without ever having to brave the weather elements outside. With improvements such as this, the Greater Binghamton Airport has further solidified itself as this region’s More Convenient Gateway to the World.

Highways

Broome County is located at the intersection of two Interstate highways (I-81 and I-88) and a major state route (New York State Route 17). New York State Route 17 is scheduled to be upgraded to federal Interstate 86. That work is expected to bring $3.2 billion in economic benefits to the region (Source: The New York I-86 Economic Development Benefits Study). The western portion of Route 17 has already been upgraded to Interstate standards.

In addition to the excellent highways in the county, the network of local roads is also exceptional. This is documented by the low commute times for area workers. The average travel time during evening rush hour is 14 minutes, and transportation planners expect this to decrease. (Source: Binghamton Metropolitan Transportation Study) Only thirty-four percent of the Greater Binghamton Area labor force commutes over twenty minutes to work.

By Car

A highway system, that includes Interstates 81 and 88 and State Route 17(soon to become Interstate 86), makes for easy travel by car into, around and out of the area.
